Over the years I have dealt with a fair number of motorcycle dealers, but Church Street Motorcycles in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight stands out as one of the best experiences I have had.
Church Street Motorcycles is a small family-run business that has been part of the Isle of Wight motorcycle community for decades. The shop was founded in 1981 by John Wheeler and his son Adrian, and since 1999 Adrian has been running the day-to-day operation. Throughout that entire time the dealership has focused on Honda motorcycles, something that becomes obvious very quickly when you step inside the shop and start talking to the people who work there.
Unlike some larger dealerships where the experience can feel quite impersonal, Church Street Motorcycles has a much more relaxed and genuine atmosphere. It is very clearly a rider-owned shop run by people who actually care about motorcycles and the riders who own them.
This is where I purchased my Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES, and the entire process was exactly how buying a motorcycle should be. Straightforward, honest and without any of the usual sales pressure that sometimes comes with larger dealerships.
Adrian Wheeler, who I dealt with directly, was excellent from start to finish. Everything was handled in a professional and friendly way, and it was obvious that he genuinely cares about making sure customers leave with the right bike and a good experience rather than simply pushing a sale. That sort of approach is increasingly rare, and it made the whole purchase feel far more enjoyable than many dealership transactions tend to be.
The shop itself reflects the same attitude. It feels like a proper motorcycle shop rather than a showroom designed purely for selling. The people there ride bikes themselves, understand the machines they sell and clearly take pride in supporting the local Isle of Wight biking community.
In a world where many dealerships are becoming increasingly corporate and impersonal, places like Church Street Motorcycles are refreshing to find. If you are looking for a Honda motorcycle and happen to be anywhere near the Isle of Wight, it is well worth calling in.
